Over the last week we have been finishing our topic on the World War 2 with some artefacts and a visitor came in to talk about his life in the war. He showed us some of his photos, aviation equipment, medals and gas masks. Some people in our class brought in some photos of their great granddad, granddad and grandmas.

This week in Leaning Challenges we have looked at the role of domestic servants in a wealthy Victorian household. We imagined we were the lady of the manor and created an advert for a junior housemaid to be put in huge local newspaper. Junior house maids were expected to rise first in the morning and light the fires in the house. They would then take hot water up to the bedrooms and clean out the slops. Other jobs would include making the beds, sweeping the floors, helping with preparing food, washing up and dusting. Their days were long and tiring and they were paid little money and had little time off in the week.
6P have spent the day creating Victorian inspired embroidery. We looked at examples and practised cross stitch and back stitch before creating our own designs on squared paper. We began our final pieces and these will be finished in the next couple of weeks. See our progress so far!

Our Learning Challenge topic is the Victorians. Did you know that Christmas cards were invented during the Victorian era?
The Victorian era saw many inventions created and important advances in science and technology. Can you find any out and post them on here?
